Mother Yuka has lived alone with her son Yugo since her husband's death. Yugo has grown up to be a healthy child, and is now a student with his sights set on a prestigious university. From now on, all their hard work will be rewarded, and once Yugo enters the workforce, a happy life awaits them...or so they thought. In the summer before Yugo's graduation next year, Mizuno and his son discuss his future plans with his homeroom teacher, Oshima. After the auspicious meeting with the three teachers, Yuka is left alone in the classroom and is told that there is a problem with Yugo's schooling....
